The Egan Drive Project is shutting down for the winter season.  

SECON & the DOT&PF would like to thank the community for your patience and cooperation this construction season.
  
Some non-ground disturbing work will continue in November and December, which may require minor traffic revisions. Public updates will be provided as often as possible during those times.
 
Regular construction activities will resume in the Spring of 2020.

Over the weekend, the right-turn pocket onto the Douglas Bridge in front of Juneau Electronics and the Marine Exchange will be closed. Right-turns on-to the Bridge will be allowed via the straight-through lane on inbound Egan. Larger vehicles needing to take right-turns on-to the Bridge should detour around the work zone and access the Bridge via the straight-through lane on 10th Street. Normal bridge access will resume by Monday, October 21st. 
All other traffic controls will remain in place between West 12th Street and the Ramada Inn:

• Traffic controls will be in place on Egan between West 12th Street and the Ramada Inn, shifting inbound and outbound traffic to the mountainside lanes on Egan, and reducing traffic lanes to one lane in each direction.
• Inbound traffic will remain shifted to the outbound fast lane of Egan Drive.
  
• Outbound traffic will remain shifted to the outbound slow lane of Egan Drive.
  
• Left-turns on-to 12th Street and 10th Street on inbound Egan will be open.
  
• Left-turns on-to and off-of the Douglas Bridge will be open.
  
• Access to 8th Street and 9th Street, near the Department of Labor, Cycle Alaska, and the Juneau Hotel, will remain open.
  
• Left-turns on-to and off-of Egan will be restricted at 8th and 9th streets and Glacier Avenue.
  
• Motorists needing to access outbound Egan from 8th and 9th streets must take a right turn onto inbound Egan and travel to Whittier Street to take a left turn and continue to the signalized 10th Street and Egan intersection. Alternatively, motorists may continue on inbound Egan to the traffic circle near the Downtown Public Library to make a permitted U-turn onto outbound Egan.
  
• During this time, there will also be pedestrian closures on the waterside of the 10th Street and Douglas Bridge intersection and a pedestrian detour under the Douglas Bridge. Access to all businesses and the Whale Park will be maintained during construction. ​

The traffic shift between 12th Street and the Ramada Inn has been delayed. An update as to when the shift will take place will be provided as soon as possible. Secon and the DOT&PF appreciate your patience during this time. 

eginning Tuesday, September 3, traffic will be shifted to the waterside of Egan Drive.
Access to Egan Drive from Whittier Street and Willoughby Avenue will be closed for approximately one week.

• To access outbound Egan from Whittier Street or Willoughby Avenue, traffic will be routed to West Willoughby onto Glacier Avenue.
• All other traffic controls will remain in place on Egan Drive between Main Street and Glacier Avenue, maintaining reduced traffic lanes to one lane in each direction. Left turns will continue to be restricted on-to or off-of Egan Drive.
• Sidewalks will be open on the mountainside of Egan Drive. There will be limited pedestrian detours for crosswalks at both Whittier Street and Willoughby Avenue.
• Pedestrian access to the Coast Guard Station, Tracy’s Crab Shack, and the State of Alaska overflow parking lot will be routed via Heat Street, the side road that lays between the Coast Guard Station and the State of Alaska overflow parking lot. 
• The unprotected crossing at Whittier Street will be closed. Please use the protected pedestrian crossings at Main Street and 10th Street.
• All businesses will have access to their establishments and are open regular hours during construction.

​Update from Capital Transit:

Capital Transit will be making temporary service changes to all routes in Downtown Juneau due to road closures from construction on Egan Drive. All bus stops along Willoughby Avenue will be temporarily closed, starting Tuesday, September 3 until further notice.  This temporary service change is expected to last one week. 

Please see the attached map for modified bus routing during this service change. To catch the bus, please go to either:

• Downtown Transit Center (Main Street and Egan Drive)
• Senior Center (12th Street and F Street)

Beginning Monday, August 19, Secon and the DOT&PF will re-open access to Whittier Street on the waterside of Egan Drive. Please be watchful of traffic revisions as this work is weather dependent and may be adjusted as necessary. The Whittier Street traffic signal will not be operational during this time.  

• An unprotected pedestrian crossing with crossing flags will be available at the Whittier Street intersection to access the Coast Guard Station, Tracy’s Crab Shack, the State of Alaska overflow parking, and Heat Street. Heat Street is the road that lays between the Coast Guard Station and the State of Alaska overflow parking lot
  
• The sidewalk between the Seadrome building and the Merchant’s Wharf on the waterside of Egan will be closed; pedestrian access to the Seadrome building will be maintained via Heat Street.  
• All other pedestrian access will be maintained on the mountainside of Egan. For your safety, please follow posted detour routes and do not enter work zones.
• Left turns will be restricted on-to or off-of Egan Drive between Main Street and Whittier Street to ensure the best possible flow of traffic through the work zone.
• Traffic controls will be in place on Egan between Main Street and Glacier Avenue reducing traffic lanes to one lane in each direction.
• All businesses will have access to their establishments and are open regular hours during construction.

Beginning Thursday, August 1st, Secon and the DOT&PF will shift traffic to the mountainside of Egan Drive. The Whittier Street traffic signal will not be operational.

• Initially the Whittier signal will be in “flashing mode” indicating the intersection is temporarily a four-way stop. This will continue for approximately four hours while workers shift traffic barriers, and then the signal will be non-operational.
• Access to Whittier Street on the waterside of Egan will be closed; motorists and pedestrians will be detoured via Heat Street to the Coast Guard Station, Tracy’s Crab Shack, and the State of Alaska overflow parking lot. Heat Street is the side road that lays in between the Coast Guard Station and the State of Alaska overflow parking lot. 
• All other pedestrian access will be maintained on the mountainside of Egan. For your safety, please follow posted detour routes and do not enter work zones.
